U15 - Debenham LC 5
Framlingham Town 0
So much rain had fallen the night before
that more worms were visible on the pitch
than blades of grass, and what with rain
falling during the entire game, and a strong
cold wind, good football was very hard to
play for both sides.
The game kicked off after two
ducks, (who probably mistook the pitch for a
pond), were ushered from the pitch and the
first meaningful action saw a good save from
Esther Gosling, the Debenham keeper. From
this time on, most goal attempts were made
by Debenham, who took the lead when a
free-kick by Zoe Elliott was dropped by the
Framlingham keeper onto Sammy Westgate's
foot, who had the easy task of side footing
the ball into the net.
After further efforts from
Zoe Elliott and Sammy Westgate, Debenham
increased their lead when they were awarded
a penalty, taken by Zoe Elliott. Her attempt
hit the crossbar and bounced out to Sammy
Westgate whose shot was blocked by the
keepers legs. The ball fell to Sophie
Adamson, who hit the ball home (third time
lucky).
Lisa Dennis went close before
Debenham made it 3-0. A free-kick by Zoe
Elliott was headed on by Clare Bevan for
Lauren Squirrell to run on to and score.
The Framlingham keeper spent
most of the second half on her knees, either
falling to smother shots or sliding out to
collect through balls.
Debenham took their tally to
four from a Jemma French corner. It looked
to be sailing behind Sammy Westgate, but she
somehow managed to back-flip the ball over
her head towards the goal. It was kicked off
the line by a defender but, not to be robbed
of a goal, Sammy was there to blast the ball
into the roof of the net.
The final goal of the game
was scored when a ball pumped forward by
Jemma French was put into her own net by a
defender attempting to put the ball off for
a corner. All though Sammy Westgate had the
chance to make it six her header from a
narrow angle landed in the goalkeepers arms.
When the whistle blew for the end of the
game there was a delayed reaction to winning
the league title before the entire team made
a noise not heard in Framlingham since the
last seige on its castle walls.
Well done to all - the best Under 15 girls
league football team in Suffolk, and part of
Essex for 2007/2008. Something to tell the
grandchildren about.

Felixstowe & Walton United 2 Brightlingsea
Regent 1
Felixstowe & Walton played
hosts to Brightlingsea Regent on what was a
soggy Sunday morning and after being mauled
6-1 in their previous meeting, Felixstowe
were looking to get one back and claim all
three points in front of their home crowd.
The game was, for the whole 80mins,
end-to-end with both sides playing attacking
football and looking to threaten the gaol at
every occasion. Both sides were looking
capable of getting a goal however it was the
home side who broke the deadlock after
10mins when Josie Haward tapped in at the
back post following a corner from the left
that evaded everyone in the area. No sooner
had they finished celebrating going in front
and Brightlingsea were back in it as their
striker capitalised on some indecisive
defending and poked home the equaliser from
close range. The half remained very tight
with either side going close however some
accomplished defending from both sides kept
the scores even. Then as the half time
whistle loomed Felixstowe’s lead was
restored as Leanne Duke finished off a
sweeping move down the right slotting into
an empty net off Leanne Lockwood’s cross.
The second half continued in the same vein
as the first with both sides looking
dangerous on the break. Felixstowe were
doing well to stave off some continued
Brightlingsea pressure and the first 15mins
of the half were spent in the Felixstowe
half. Towards the end of the game
Brightlingsea looked to have grabbed their
much sort after equaliser if only for some
last ditch defending. A ball across the box
was collected by the Brightlingsea winger
however her goal-bound shot was bravely
charged down by defender Laura Pattinson
saving what would have been a definite goal.
Felixstowe saw out the game and celebrated
the victory and the three points that see
them leapfrog Brightlingsea into fourth
place in the table.
On reflection it was a very well-contested
game with plenty of action at both ends of
the field. There were a few questionable
decisions from the referee however all in
all the game was played in great spirits
despite the dreary weather conditions.

Bury Town 'A' 0 Brandon Lasses 2
A keenly anticipated match after Brandon had
demolished Bury 11-0 in the opening match of
the season, so Bury had it all to prove.
Bury had to give up home advantage due to a
waterlogged pitch, but they didn't let this
get them down and they chased the game from
the start, matching a class Brandon side
ball for ball ,it looked like it would be
even at the break but in the last minute
Brandon stole a goal from an unfortunate
rebound, after a great save from the Bury
keeper. After the break Brandon came out
looking like the top of the league side they
are and threw everything they had at Bury
but Bury absorbed the pressure and looked
increasingly dangerous on the break, however
Brandon made it 2-0 from an excellent
counter break .Bury just wouldn't give up
though and fought tenaciously on but ran out
of time. A superb game of football, a credit
to every single Bury player well done all.
Final score Bury 0 Brandon 2.

Bury Town 'A' 0 Brandon Lasses 2
(Charlotte Howard, Jenna
Grazzini)
Due to heavy overnight
rain this fixture was switched to Brandon
and despite a strong blustery wind the pitch
condition was perfect. After recent results
Brandon knew they would be up against a
different Bury team than the one they had
beaten convincingly early in the season. In
the first half both teams competed well and
created chances and as the half went on the
Lasses started to take the upper hand in
mid-field but Bury always looked dangerous
on the break. Leanne Smith in the Lasses
goal had to be at her best saving well late
in the half, Brandon then took the advantage
right on half time when a Jenna Grazzini
shot was blocked and Charlotte Howard picked
her spot to finish well, a great time to
score! The second
half was much as the first but with Bury
having the wind advantage, in the opening
exchanges Brandon looked comfortable but
could not make the break through. Bury
defended well and as the half went on the
pressure started to swing with the whole
squad having to dig deep to keep control.
Once again it was left to late in the game
for the Lasses to make sure of the points
with Jenna Grazzini slotting home from close
range.
A hard fought victory but
very good squad performance against vastly
improved Bury side! Well done to both sides
for an excellent game!
