U15 - Cup Semi Final -
Debenham LC 3 Boxford Rovers 1
For the second match in succession, Debenham
met a determined Boxford team, who, having
conceded ground in the league, wanted
revenge in the knock-out cup competition.
The first shot on goal by
Debenham came from Sophie Adamson but early
movement was very tight, with Boxford just
having the better of play. Debenham stuck to
their task, and two good runs up the wing
and crosses by Clare Bevan were
unfortunately blocked by Boxford defenders.
However, 20 minutes into the game good work
from Jemma French won possession, she
skipped past a defender and centred for
Sophie Adamson to lob the ball over the
keeper to put Debenham into the lead.
Unfortunately for Debenham
their lead didn't last long as a long, high
ball sent into the Debenham area by the
goalkeeper caused panic amongst the
defenders and although they had several
opportunities to clear the ball it was was
scramble into the Debenham net from close
range to draw Boxford level.
Play from now on swung from
end to end, Sophie Adamson firing just over
the bar and Esther Gosling, superb
throughout, making a good save from a high
ball fired towards the top corner, injuring
herself in the process. Other goal attempts
by Ceara O'Keefe and Zoe Elliott went close
but Boxford had the best opportunity to take
the lead before half time from a free-kick
in a very dangerous position. Tasha Barker
did well to clear the ball away from goal.
The second half began with
Boxford on the front foot, and Charlie
Felgate had to be alert to make timely
tackles to stop several moves down the wing.
Debenham seemed to be coming more and more
under the cosh, and had to wait 15 minutes
of the second half for the first attempt on
goal from Lauren Squirrel.
A break from Boxford resulted in a save from
Esther Gosling and the ball went straight to
a Boxford player, who looked certain to
score. However, Esther Gosling recovered and
made an outstanding save. This and an
inspired substitution by manager Gary French
turned the game and soon afterwards Sammy
Westgate crossed the ball for Lisa Dennis to
give Debenham the lead for the second time.
Soon afterwards a good run
and pass from Lisa Dennis and a side-step
and a shot from Clare Bevan that soared into
the Boxford net and made the score 3-1.
Jemma French nearly brought the Debenham
tally to 4 after a good run, and her fierce
shot bounced off the goalkeeper's knee.
Well done girls. You almost
put a smile on the faces of at least 4
Debenham spectators still despondent about
their teams exit from the F.A cup the day
before.

-League - Bury Town 'A' 4 Waveney Girls 0
Bury started off very
brightly taking the game straight to Waveney
and Gemma Sadler put them ahead after only 5
minutes, the game settled then though Bury
kept the upper hand and Sadler netted her
second on the 20 minute mark. This seemed to
send Bury to sleep and Waveney after
sustained pressure were awarded a penalty
which was superbly saved by Charlotte
Osbourne, so 2-0 at the break. Bury came out
after the break rejuvenated and piled the
pressure on but the ball refused to go in,
meanwhile Waveney were increasingly
dangerous on the break, however the Bury
pressure had to tell and Kate McGreavy
finally broke through and scored Bury's
third. Bury remained focused and Lovell
Jones marked her third season with Bury by
scoring a superb goal, her first for the
club.

Cup
Semi-Final - Brandon Lasses 5 Copleston SC 0
(Charlotte Howard 2, Francesca Bonnett,
Jenna Grazzini, Paige Kenny)
Copleston started this cup fixture well
putting the Lasses defence under pressure
and could have easily taken an early
advantage. Brandon then started to organise
themselves and took the lead mid-way through
the half after an Charlotte Howard shot was
well parried by the visitors keeper but
Paige Kenny was first to react tucking the
ball home. Jenna Grazzini was unfortunate
minutes later after some superb individual
play saw her shot go just wide but the
Lasses did double the advantage after Ellen
Rumsey's good pass from defence set Jenna
and Charlotte free down the right and some
great interplay between the two released
Charlotte with a very good finish.
Brandon started the second
half well with Charlotte adding her second,
Ellen was then came close with a long range
effort which was well pushed round the post
by the Copleston keeper. A well delivered
Dayna Howard corner led to the Lasses fourth
when Charlottes shot came off the post and
Jenna capped a superb performance with a
well deserved goal and Francesca Bonnett
finished things off late on with a cool
finish. Leanne Smith dominated her area well
in goal after the early pressure, well done
to all the girls for a solid performance
joining the under 10's and 13's at the
finals in April!

Cup Semi-Final - St Johns 1 Brandon Lasses 4
(Nadine Basson 4)
Lasses were made to fight all
the way, in this league cup semi-final. The
game was much closer than the score
suggested.
Brandon began well enough
when Nadine Basson scored with a fine 20
yard drive. This fired St Johns into action
and soon after they equalized after a
defensive mix up .
Half time could not come quick enough for
lasses, a slight re-shuffle at the break did
the trick for Brandon and it wasn't long
before Basson put Brandon back in front. Now
the lasses had their tails up and at last
started to play. Inevitabley Basson went on
to grab her hat-trick. before wrapping up
the scoring with her fourth. A great 2nd
half display by all of Brandon's players,
but Basson's performance stood out as player
of the match. |
