Debenham LC 5 Felixstowe and Walton United 1
In this, the latest
instalment in their quest for league glory,
Debenham began the game facing a stiff wind.
Felixstowe started on the front foot, but it
wasn't long before Debenham's first attack,
Sammy Westgate shooting against the keeper
after a good run and cross from Clare Bevan.
The two girls combined again for the next
attack, Sammy heading wide on this occasion.
Lisa Dennis came close to opening the
scoring, managing a volley following a
corner kick, but Felixstowe also looked
dangerous on the attack, and took the lead
following a very good shot that gave keeper
Esther Gosling no chance. Esther did well to
prevent Felixstowe from adding to this goal
before half-time when she made a good save
when a Felixstowe forward tried to lob her
turning the ball round the post.
Not many minutes had
passed in the second half before Lauren
Squirrel surprised the Felixstowe keeper
with a hard shot on the half-volley to even
the scores, and nearly put Debenham in front
with a shot blocked by the keepers legs
after a Jemma French corner. Shortly
afterwards determined running with the ball,
almost the whole length of the field, and a
1-2 with Zoe Elliott, resulted in a goal for
Jemma and put Debenham in the lead. Debenham
were attacking nearly non-stop by now, and
went close to scoring when a pass by Lauren
Squirrel and a shot from Sammy Westgate
forced the Felixstowe keeper into a good
save. They also went close from 2 good
efforts from distance by Jemma French.
Debenham added to
their total when Sammy Westgate controlled a
Felixstowe goal kick and hit the ball into
the net before the keeper could recover.
Having got the taste for scoring, she did a
long, weaving run around several defenders,
and artfully lobbed the ball over the
advancing keeper for her second goal, the
move started by good work from Abi Walker.
Sammy completed her hat-trick when a Jemma
French cross gave her the opportunity to
hook the ball past the Felixstowe keeper and
score in off the post. Before the game
ended, their was one more opportunity for a
Debenham player to shine, Esther Gosling
making a very good diving catch when
Felixstowe crossed the ball into the
Debenham goal area.
Most influential player of
the match? Probably Lauren Squirrel, whose
goal turned the game, calmed Debenham's
nerves, and showed the rest of the team the
way. 5 games and counting down.......

Bury Town 'A'. 2 Bacton United 1
Bury got their game
together early on Bacton seemed to struggle
in the first half with no shape to their
game at all. Bury created a couple of
chances Jordan Davies blocking a shot on
goal and Maria Walker pushing a shot out for
a corner. Eventually Bury scored after
hesitantly in Bactons defence. Georgie
Bryant scooped a shot over at the other end
and Tiffany Weeks skimmed the bar with a
good effort. Bury looked organised and
finished the half on top. Bacton tried to
sort out what was going wrong during h.t .
We were a lot more with it
in the second half Grania Smith getting in a
good shot after good build-up play from
Shantel Nobel and Megan Davies with some
great crosses looked dangerous, but Bury
were quick on the break, defender Lisa
Hynard though was having a good game got in
some vital interceptions and Frances Wildmun
in goal for the second half had to rush out
to the edge of the area to tackle an
oncoming foward. The game was really buzzing
Angelica Arnold volleyed over from close
range Maria hit the side netting and Grania
was foiled by Bury's keeper who was having
an excellent game.As Bacton pushed players
forward to get an equalizer Bury broke
forward and scored a second. Bacton then
pulled a goal back though Grania. As Bury
celebrated at the end Bacton felt frustrated
at not getting anything from the game.
U14 - Bury Town
Bluebirds 'A' 2 Bacton United 1
A game between two very evenly matched
teams, Bury dominated the first half but
just couldn't hit the back of the net and
Bacton looked increasingly dangerous on the
break, but finally after some fine strong
play from Georgie Hart, the ball was fed
through to Kate McGreavy who calmly beat her
marker and struck the ball home.
The second half Bacton
really came alive and piled the pressure on
Bury but it was now their finishing that let
them down and Bury who looked dangerous on
the break, Lucy Robinson proving it by
breaking from the halfway line sidestepping
two Bacton defenders and sliding the ball
past an excellent Bacton keeper to score
probably the best goal of the season. Bacton
threw everything at Bury in the last minutes
and were rewarded with a consolation goal,
but Bury held on to win 2-1.

- Brandon Lasses 6 Copleston SC 1
(Charlotte Howard 2, Natalie Nowland,
Francesca Bonnett, Paige Kenny)
After a disappointing performance last week
the girls responded well, Brandon took the
lead in the opening minutes with a great
finish from Dayna Howard. Midway through the
half Natalie Nowland was introduced with
immediate effect scoring with her first
touch from a well delivered corner.
Charlotte Howard then added the third with
another good finish from outside the box.
The second half started
much as the first with Charlotte picking up
the ball from a Copleston goal kick and
finishing well. Francesca Bonnett capped a
good strong display with the Lasses fifth, a
good finish across the goal before the
visitors pulled a goal back from an indirect
free kick in the box. Paige Kenny finished
scoring with a deserved goal and the Lasses
sixth.
Once again Brandon's defence looked solid
but this was a good all round team
performance well done!

- Brandon Lasses 2 Whitton United 1 Suffolk
Girls Football League Cup Q/F
With an injury weakened team, Brandon won a
hard fought contest. Lasses made a bright
start with an early goal from Nadine Basson.
The defence had to hold out for much of the
first half and eventually Whitton broke
through, by half time Brandon had held out
at 1-1.
The second half began just as the first with
an early Brandon goal, this time scored by
Lilly Reynolds. Once again the home team
came at the Lasses but the defence of Megan
Norton, Natasha Rutter and Rachel Lynch were
solid. Brandon mounted several attacks and
from one of these Kayleigh Nolan hit the
post. By the final whistle both teams were
tiring due to the superb effort they had put
in. Player of the match : Megan Norton.
U10
- Brandon Lasses 3 Copleston SC 1
(Charley Curtis 2, Shannon Oderbrecht 1)
Both teams competed well
in a tight first half with both side
cancelling each other out.
Copleston got off to a better start in the
second half when the ball fell for one of
their strikers to finish. The Lasses
responded well and equalised after a penalty
was well blocked by the visitors keeper but
the rebound was followed up by Shannon
Oderbrecht. This then spurred the home side
on and they started to play their best
football and a neat move involving Georgia
O'Malley, Ellesse Masters and finished by
Charley Curtis put the home side ahead.
Charley then added her second and the Lasses
third to seal the points. |
