U15 - Brightlingsea 0 Debenham LC 4

This game was played in clear, dry conditions but unfortunately with a wind chill factor that made the temperature appear below freezing. Indeed, the strong wind across the pitch made passing the ball very difficult, and broke up attacks from both teams. These conditions did not, of course deter Jemma French who must have covered every inch of the pitch by the end of the match!

The first goal opportunity of note came from Lisa Dennis. Her run down the wing and shot looked to be a goal all the way until it got held up by the wind and allowed the Brightlingsea player to block it. Jemma French was making several determined runs to bring the ball from defence to attack, and was the subject of some fierce tackling from Brightlingsea defenders. A free kick was not awarded and moments later she hit the referee hard with the ball from one of her ferocious kicks downfield. She wishes it to be know that the events were not connected!

Sammy Westgate almost put Debenham ahead when a long shot was bent round the post by the strong wind, but was successful soon afterwards when put through by Ceara O'Keefe. Brightlingsea tried hard to get level, and a dangerous high ball bounced in the Debenham goal area and was thankfully helped over the bar by Sophie Adamson.

Debenham were helped by the weather conditions in the second half, but, early on, attacks still swung from end to end.

Sammy Westgate tried to lob the keeper but the ball bounced off the top of the bar and back into the grateful keepers arms. A pass from Jemma French resulted in the ball being fired just past the post by Sammy Westgate, but Jemma got the goal she so richly deserved when she kicked the ball over the keeper and into the net to put Debenham two goals up. A pass from Clare Bevan to Sammy Westgate resulted in a beautiful chip, again over the keeper and into the goal, and Sammy got her hat-trick with another very similar goal before the end.

I would like to mention the sound defensive work of Zoe Elliott and Charlie Felgate, especially the latters tackling and special mention for Sophie Adamson deputising in goal for Debenham's usual goalkeepers. Not only did she prove an able deputy, she also kept a clean sheet!
Well done girls! Four games and counting......

U14 - Brandon Lasses 3 Woodbridge Town 0
(Charlotte Howard 2, Dayna Howard 1)

This match was a real six pointer with one point between the sides at the top of the table before play. The home side started the brighter and could have taken the lead early on when Charlotte Howard's shot came of the post. Woodbridge then started to press and looked to take the lead on 15mins. from a superbly struck shot from the Town midfielder headed for the corner of the goal only for Leanne Smith in goal to pull off a tremendous save pushing the ball around her post. The lasses defence of April Harrild , Ellen Rumsey and Natasha Dawson playing into the wind found themselves under increasing pressure but battled really well to keep the visitors out. The home side always looked dangerous of the break with Francesca Bonnett looking a real threat down the right-hand side. Half time 0-0 but could have been 3-3

Brandon a had a great start to the second half taking the lead through Charlotte Howard followed by a lovely finish from Dayna Howard to give the Lasses a two goal cushion. Credit must go to the girls who kept up their work rate and started to take control of the game with some good solid midfield work through Paige Kenny, Jenna Grazinni, Natalie Nowland and Evie Laddell. Good work on the right by Francesca then set Charlotte up for her second and the Lasses third. Woodbridge threatened towards the end but again the work rate of the lasses defence kept the visitors out for a well deserved clean sheet. Another very good team display and hard fought result!

U13 - Brandon Lasses 13 Copleston SC 0

Brandon scored as early as the first minute with a goal from Harriet Mills. Nadine Basson added the second before Tash Rutter added number three. The second half saw Basson hit three more to take her tally to 4, Lilly Reynolds scored number 12, and just before the final whistle, goalie Amber Browne added the 13th
